Lockout-Tagout Template

Run a controlled lockout-tagout process for isolating hazardous energy before equipment is serviced. Each record covers one job: the equipment being worked on, who is authorized, who is affected, every energy source isolated, verification that the equipment is at a zero-energy state, a signature, and the release. The completed record stays in Coast as evidence long after the physical tag comes off.

How the Lockout-Tagout Workflow Works

Plan the Lockout

Record the job, permit number, and reason for service. Identify the equipment, location, and related work order, then name the authorized employee and the affected employees.

Isolate and Verify

Work through the energy isolation checklist — electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and stored motion, thermal, chemical, gravity, and water or steam. Record the isolation points and lock and tag IDs, then confirm the try-out proved a zero-energy state.

Sign Off and Release

The authorized employee signs and the lockout date is recorded. Status moves from Planned to Locked Out, Work In Progress, and Restored, with the restoration date and who restored energy captured at the end.

Benefits of This Lockout-Tagout Workflow

  • Follow the Same Sequence Every Time

Each energy type is its own checkbox and the try-out verification is its own step, so nothing is skipped because the form was filled in from memory.

  • Keep a Defensible Record

Signatures, dates, isolation point IDs, and photos stay on the record instead of on a paper tag that gets thrown away.

  • See Every Active Lockout

A status board shows what is planned, what is currently locked out, what is in progress, and what has been restored.

FAQs About Lockout-Tagout

What happens when I add this workflow to Coast?

Coast creates the Lockout-Tagout workspace with the full record, the energy isolation checklist, the signature field, and the status board and list views. Your team can start creating lockout records right away.

How can Coast AI help with this workflow?

Coast AI can customize the checklist for your equipment, add notification or approval steps, and answer questions using lockout records stored in Coast. Technicians can capture details and photos from the field.

Can I change the energy sources on the checklist?

Yes. Add, remove, or rename any item on the isolation checklist so it matches the procedures your team actually follows.

Does this connect to my assets and work orders?

Yes. The record includes equipment, location, and work order links that you point at your existing Coast workspaces, so a lockout is tied to the asset and the job it belongs to.
