eWorkOrders made a name for itself in the work order software space years ago, known for being an easy-to-use platform that also offers advanced capabilities. More recently, the platform added AI and predictive capabilities to its feature set to help it compete with other, newer computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

But like all platforms, eWorkOrders isn’t for everyone. In this review, my goal is to help you understand what eWorkOrders offers, where it falls short and any other information you need to decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Before diving into the review, here’s what you should know. I reviewed the platform’s resources and website to thoroughly understand what it offers and where it lacks. Unfortunately, there’s no free plan or trial, so my assessment is based on the available resources, including demo videos, user reviews and online forums.

Getting started with eWorkOrders isn’t as easy or quick as some other CMMS platforms we’ve reviewed. Their structured implementation process is front-loaded, focusing on system configuration, data migration and user training with support from their team.

This guided implementation may be helpful for teams new to maintenance software or transitioning from manual processes. But if you prefer a self-guided setup, you’ll find this one to be a bit tedious. For users expecting a more intuitive, app-like experience, the interface requires a learning curve.

Creating new work orders is pretty straightforward, especially since there’s a simple list of existing work orders from which you can search. All other sections are housed in an always-visible ribbon at the top, making them easy to access. The only problem? The overall experience may not be as fluid due to the traditional interface design.

eWorkOrders Mobile Experience

The eWorkOrders mobile experience features a more traditional, information-dense interface just like its web interface. It prioritizes functionality and accessibility over a simplified or modern design. In short, it’s not great for technicians who would learn more quickly on an interface that acts and feels like a consumer app.

At least its tile-based home screen provides clearly labeled modules like work orders, assets, inventory and documents, so the initial navigation is fairly straightforward.eworkorders mobileIn the work orders section, technicians can view a list of assigned work orders in a scrollable format and tap into individual tasks to access detailed information. Within each work order, technicians can upload images, videos or other resources to document completed work or share field updates.

Similarly, in the assets section, technicians can search for assets and scan QR or barcode labels to find asset details and related work orders quickly.

The mobile app gets the job done. It offers almost everything you’d expect from a mobile CMMS. But for non-tech-savvy team members, it’s far from perfect.

eWorkOrders Core Features & Functionality

Let’s look at the capabilities of eWorkOrders in key areas of maintenance management.

Asset Management & Tracking

The asset management module is fairly extensive. Each asset maintains full maintenance history, warranty details, manuals, schematics and asset values. Your technicians can quickly view related maintenance activity directly from the asset record. Here’s an example of the type of details you can add when creating an asset on eWorkOrders:eWorkorders asset One feature that stands out is the GIS-based asset mapping. eWorkOrders allows users to overlay assets on floor plans, site maps or schematics. This gives your team a visual way to locate equipment and view related data. GIS-based mapping is especially useful for organizations managing multiple locations or complex environments.

The platform also allows you to integrate programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and IoT devices via API. Integration with these devices enables users to perform predictive maintenance by monitoring equipment health in real time and addressing risks before they lead to a breakdown. However, both GIS and API are available only in the top-tier plan.

Work Order Management

eWorkOrders focuses much of its functionality on a structured work order system. All maintenance tasks are tracked through a centralized dashboard. On the desktop interface, work orders appear in a table format with columns for status, priority, asset, location and assignment, along with a search bar to find specific tasks.eWorkorders listCreating work orders is pretty straightforward. Users need to fill out a form that includes details like asset, location, priority, scheduling information and descriptions. eWorkOrders lets your technicians attach images and other files to work orders, which is great for sharing additional context with the rest of the team.

Once work orders are created, users can view them with clearly defined fields and status indicators visible in the list view. We appreciate that there’s also an option to customize how work orders are displayed by selecting which columns appear in the table, which helps teams prioritize relevant information.

Overall, I feel the work order management module is quite extensive. The only thing I’d like to see improve is the data-heavy layout and traditional interface.

Preventive Maintenance

The preventive maintenance (PM) module allows you to schedule maintenance work based on time intervals, usage, meter readings or condition-based triggers. The work orders can include attached checklists or standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency among technicians and across locations.

Once you’ve built your preventive maintenance schedule, the platform automatically generates work orders for relevant assets. eWorkOrders also provides an interactive calendar view that lets you see scheduled maintenance activities. This helps users understand upcoming workloads and plan resources accordingly.eworkorders preventive maintenanceThe platform provides visibility into maintenance performance through dashboards and reports that track metrics such as on-time PM completion and asset reliability indicators, including mean time between failures (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR).

Based on my research, I found the preventive maintenance module to be robust, especially in terms of scheduling flexibility and standardization.

Communication

Communication mostly happens via uploaded images, documents and other files attached to work orders. eWorkOrders doesn’t offer a built-in chat feature like most modern CMMS platforms. The system does provide status updates and notifications to keep everyone informed without manual follow-ups, but that’s often not enough for modern maintenance teams.

Even though there are ways to communicate through the system’s broader functionality, the lack of real-time conversations can occasionally slow down the workflow.

Reporting & Analytics

eWorkOrders offers a wide range of pre-built reports for areas like work orders, assets, inventory, vendors and maintenance costs as well as the ability to create custom reports.For example, users can generate work order reports to track completion times and technician productivity or asset reports to monitor equipment health and maintenance history.ReportingIn addition to static reports, users can also use dashboards to track KPIs such as work order backlog and PM completion rates in real time. Users can also generate ad hoc reports using filters and live data to get specific information without exporting data to external tools. It’s also possible to schedule reports and update them automatically to ensure stakeholders receive regular insights.

Overall, the platform provides a comprehensive reporting system with adequate coverage across maintenance ops and performance metrics.

Unique Features to eWorkOrders

I previously mentioned that eWorkOrders offers GIS-based mapping as part of its asset management capabilities. This feature allows users to plot assets on interactive maps and view related maintenance data in context. While it does offer practical visualization capabilities, it appears to focus more on operational visibility than on the advanced geospatial analysis you get with dedicated GIS platforms.

eWorkOrders also offers an AI-powered work order assistant that analyzes work order details and other maintenance data. The assistant uses this data to provide recommendations, prioritize tasks and offer step-by-step guidance within work orders.

However, the AI capabilities appear to be assistive. Rather than operating as a standalone AI system with advanced machine learning or autonomous decision-making, the assistant seems to build on existing data and predefined logic to improve workflows.

Essentially, eWorkOrders offers a handful of advanced capabilities, but they’re best viewed as an incremental layer on top of existing features — something to keep in mind when deciding whether these features make eWorkOrders worth investing in.

eWorkOrders Adaptability & Customization

eWorkOrders allows users to customize fields, forms, workflows, reports and dashboards. This means you can build work order forms that match your existing processes. For example, users can modify request forms to include specific details based on downstream data requirements, thereby avoiding manual follow-ups later.

You can also customize your workflow by configuring how work orders move through different stages. Similarly, you can build custom reports and dashboards to track metrics that are most relevant to different roles. In some cases, more advanced customization, like making major workflow changes, may require working with the eWorkOrders team during your CMMS implementation.

Additionally, eWorkOrders offers role-based access controls. You can define user permissions for each user based on their role or location to ensure they only see and interact with data relevant to them.

In short, eWorkOrders is a customizable platform for teams willing to invest some time in setup and configuration. But it’s not exactly the best choice for users who prefer instant customization that modern, user-configurable systems offer.

Users can reach the support team via phone, email and web-based requests. eWorkOrders also offers a dedicated account manager and priority support to enterprise-tier users. The platform also offers various resources for users who prefer to self-serve, including in-depth guides and articles, a video library and personalized web conferences to support your training efforts.

Based on user reviews, support responsiveness is consistently strong. Almost no user seems to have reported a negative experience with the support team or difficulty reaching them.

eWorkOrder uses three pricing tiers. The Starter plan starts at around $380 per month, and the Advanced plan, at $480 per month. Both plans offer unlimited users. This is great for large teams that feel the features available under these plans are adequate. But for small teams, the fixed price just increases the effective per-user cost.PricingFor users who need features such as API access, GIS, the AI assistant and multilingual capabilities, the Enterprise tier is the only option, costing $45 to $120 per user per month, depending on the features you choose. The Enterprise tier is more expensive than comparable platforms, and the lower-tier plans make sense only for medium to large teams given the fixed price. Unfortunately, there’s also no trial or free plan, so you need to go through demos or sales conversations before fully evaluating if there’s a fit.
