Forklift Inspection Checklist

Forklift inspection checklist

Intro

OSHA requires that forklifts be inspected at least once per shift to ensure they’re safe for operation. An inspection checklist gives operators a structured way to confirm the truck is in good working order before it hits the floor. Skipping inspections puts operators at risk, reduces productivity and exposes your company to costly compliance violations.

For operators, a forklift inspection checklist provides:

  • Safety assurance: Confirms brakes, hydraulics and safety systems work before lifting loads.
  • Regulatory compliance: Provides documentation to satisfy OSHA and insurance audits.
  • Reduced downtime: Identifies minor issues early so maintenance teams can perform forklift maintenance early on before breakdowns occur.
  • Peace of mind: Ensures every shift starts with a safe, reliable forklift.

Pro tip: Using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) like Coast makes forklift inspections easier by digitizing this checklist. Operators can complete inspections from their phone, attach photos of damage and automatically flag unsafe forklifts for repair.
