Intro

A construction safety checklist will help you ensure the safety of your employees. Use this checklist to find and record common construction hazards.

Construction Safety Checklist

Hard hats are worn when required
Boots are worn when required
Hearing protection worn when required
Face protection worn when required
Eye protection worn when required
Respiratory protection worn when required
Respiratory protection training provided
Life jacket worn when working over or near water
All the above are supplied by the employer
Correct size for the job
Fully opened and spreader bars locked
Firm foundation for ladder feet
Proper climbing procedures
Three-point contact rule followed
Free from obvious defects
Workers stand below top 2 steps
Extend more than three feet above support
Fall protection used if over 10 feet tall
Set up on level, stable footing
Platform is appropriate width for type of scaffold
Fall protection provided for heights 6 ft. or more
Harness is worn properly and attached to secure anchorage
Slide guards are installed across full width and all sides
Guardrails set up for openings >6’ above lower level
Guardrails are constructed sturdily with 2 x 4s
Workers are trained on the use of power tools
Workers have appropriate PPE and keep clothing away
Workers are trained prior to using nail guns
Tile and concrete are cut with wet methods
Have workers been trained on preventing and recognizing heat-related illness?
Are workers provided with enough water and appropriate rest breaks?
Have workers been trained on handling lead dust?
Is the work area properly contained?
Work on electrical circuits or energized equipment is begun only after all power sources have been identified, de-energized and locked out or tagged out.
Overhead and underground electrical power lines are located, identified, and avoided.
Ladders, scaffolds, equipment or materials more than 10 feet from any electrical power lines
Soil and conditions are inspected everyday
Safe exits (ladders) for excavations greater than 4 ft. deep
Shoring, shielding, and inclination assessed for excavations greater than 5 ft. deep
