Honest Tractian Review: Is Tractian a Good CMMS?

Tractian is unique in that it offers both hardware in the form of sensors and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software to help industrial maintenance teams streamline work order management and preventive maintenance. 

In this Tractian review, we provide in-depth explanations of its CMMS features to help you understand the platform and its quirks. We also specifically look at how Tractian’s hardware offering can be both a good and bad thing, depending on your needs and goals. Let’s get started.

Before we jump in, note that Tractian doesn’t offer a free trial or a product tour on its website. But it does have extensive resources across its website, including a blog and training academy. We dug through information available in those resources as well as software review sites like G2 and Capterra to create this Tractian review.

Tractian Ease of Use

After reviewing comments from Tractian users, it’s clear that the interface is modern and approachable. One Reddit user describes Tractian’s CMMS as “really well-made” and “easy to use.”

However, users also raised concerns about specific areas of navigation in the same Reddit thread and cited a few Capterra reviews flagging difficulty with spectral analysis navigation.

The platform markets itself as “one system to track, prioritize and act,” and for teams operating squarely in industrial manufacturing, that promise seems to hold. But for facility or property managers newer to CMMS software, the manufacturing-heavy design may create coordination challenges across different maintenance teams.

Tractian Mobile Experience

Tractian does have a mobile app, available on both iOS and Android, but feedback from users suggests it’s one of the platform’s weaker areas.

A G2 reviewer specifically flagged mobile as a pain point. Alejandro Fabio G., a maintenance engineer intern at an enterprise with over 1,000 employees, noted that, while the interface is functional, it becomes “very complicated in phones,” and recommended that the interface be changed.

This is worth keeping in mind if your maintenance technicians aren’t tech-savvy. A complicated phone interface can slow adoption and create friction exactly where you need things to move fast.

On top of that, as of March 2026, Tractian had just 33 ratings on the Apple App Store and eight reviews on Google Play, making it hard to assess the mobile experience at any real scale before committing to a paid plan.

Tractian Core Features & Functionality

Tractian markets itself as an end-to-end platform combining industrial-grade hardware with a software layer designed to help maintenance teams track, prioritize and act, all from one place.

But how does that hold up at the feature level? We dug into user reviews and product documentation to break down what each core module actually delivers in practice. Here’s what we found.

Asset Management & Tracking

Tractian provides a centralized view of asset conditions, with the platform designed to help teams detect failures early and reduce unplanned equipment downtime. On the ground, this translates to real-time visibility into machine health across your facility.

However, not everything is perfect. Jordan I., a branding assistant at a mid-market company, noted on G2 that while Tractian’s remote monitoring capability lets you pull real-time data on machine health “anytime, anywhere,” the positioning sensors on certain equipment can be tricky and may require professional input.

Tractian also offers capabilities beyond the basics. For example, it brings asset tracking directly onto a visual floor plan, delivering a live view of equipment health, location and metrics in one intuitive interface — a level of spatial visibility that goes beyond what most standard CMMS platforms offer.

From here, teams can organize asset trees and tags and access maintenance records at every hierarchical level, with the ability to accurately track key reliability metrics like mean time between failure, asset availability and maintenance costs.

Work Order Management

Tractian’s CMMS gives teams a single view of all open, in-progress, completed and overdue work orders. It also allows you to assign tasks by asset, location or team and adjust on the fly without losing control.

Each task comes with built-in priorities, due dates, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and checklists. The system delivers real-time updates from the field, allowing your team to track completion and cost data without relying on a colleague.

On the shop floor, technicians receive push alerts, view step-by-step instructions, upload photos and log progress directly from their mobile devices. For planning, teams can use templates, preventive maintenance schedules and priority rules every week. Both calendar and Gantt views are available to keep track of all scheduled work.

Preventive Maintenance

Tractian’s approach to preventive maintenance (PM) goes beyond fixed calendar schedules. Its unified ecosystem connects vibration sensors to AI algorithms that automatically generate smart work orders, ensuring technicians act on precise, real-time insights rather than arbitrary time intervals.

In fact, condition monitoring is one of Tractian’s most powerful capabilities. This means when vibration or temperature readings exceed set thresholds, the system automatically generates inspection tasks or advances scheduled PM dates without any manual intervention.

Tractian also makes it easy to stay current with your PM schedule. It automates work orders based on dates, meter readings or runtime hours; notifies technicians; escalates overdue tasks; and reschedules work to keep your program running efficiently.

On the scheduling side, Tractian’s AI analyzes work orders, sensor readings and failure records to identify degradation patterns. It then automatically adjusts PM intervals based on actual equipment condition rather than rigid manufacturer recommendations.

We like that Tractian lets technicians complete tasks using mobile devices, even offline. Technicians can also access equipment history, view procedures, record measurements and attach photos on site, with data syncing automatically once reconnected.

Communication

Tractian keeps communication centralized within its platform. This means your team won’t need to rely on separate messaging tools to stay coordinated. In fact, this is also a feature we highly emphasize with Coast — real-time chats can significantly reduce time wasted because of delayed communication.

On Tractian, users can mention specific team members, send voice messages and attach files from the interface where work orders are managed. Tractian also launched an AI-powered transcription layer that converts spoken field updates into structured text automatically. This makes voice notes practical and actionable without requiring technicians to type out updates manually.

Reporting & Analytics

Tractian’s reporting is built directly into the same system that captures condition-monitoring data and work-order activity. This means dashboards update in real time as events occur on the plant floor, instead of pulling from disconnected sources after the fact.

Managers can track overdue tasks, compliance rates, costs, time to completion and team performance, making it straightforward to find trends and fix gaps in the maintenance strategy. In addition to standard reporting tools, it offers native integration for its Smart Trac Ultra sensors.

We appreciate how Tractian’s AI-powered analytics go beyond simply displaying metrics. They automatically identify patterns and anomalies and generate prescriptive recommendations. When the Auto Diagnosis technology detects an equipment fault, the system simultaneously generates a work order with embedded diagnostic guidance.

Native Integration With Proprietary Sensors

What sets Tractian apart from other CMMS vendors is that it designs and manufactures its own industrial sensors in-house, creating a single platform where hardware and software operate as one unified system rather than two separate tools that need to talk to each other. Tractian natively integrates with Smart Trac Ultra, its IoT sensor, which continuously monitors vibration, temperature, runtime and RPM on critical equipment.

At the center of this is an AI-powered fault detection feature called Auto Diagnosis. When sensors pick up abnormal readings, Auto Diagnosis analyzes the data and identifies what’s wrong and how serious it is. This problem could be an imbalance, misalignment, bearing defects or looseness. When anomalies are detected, Tractian automatically generates a prioritized work order with AI-recommended SOPs.

Of course, investing heavily in Tractian sensors leads to heavy reliance on Tractian’s proprietary software, which limits flexibility and drives up costs if you need to switch providers.

Tractian Adaptability & Customization

Tractian offers a decent level of customization options and is capable of adapting to your operational style. For example, admins on the Enterprise plan can create custom fields across core CMMS modules. This gives your team the flexibility to capture specific data points that matter to their operation.

The platform also supports multiple views with filters by categories, statuses and assignees, making it easy to cut through the noise and see only what’s relevant to your role.

For teams that need deeper governance and integration capabilities, the Enterprise plan offers features like custom entities, single sign-in (SSO) and a Power BI connector for building live dashboards using Tractian data.

The only problem? These features are gated behind the Enterprise tier. This may be a limitation for smaller teams on the Standard plan.

Tractian Customer Support

Tractian offers multiple ways to get help, including self-serve and live support options. On the live front, the support team is available 24/7 via email and live chat, and the sales team can be reached via phone.

For teams that prefer to troubleshoot independently, Tractian has a Help Center with technical documentation, a Tractian Academy for on-demand training and a Trust Center covering security and compliance documentation.

On the onboarding side, Tractian describes its setup process as minimal-training-required, with a simple import tool that lets teams bring in data from spreadsheets or existing systems. They also have a team of maintenance experts to guide new customers through the process. However, a dedicated account manager is only available on the Enterprise plan.

Tractian Pricing

Tractian sells two distinct products: a CMMS and a condition monitoring sensor system. Each has its own pricing structure, but it’s also possible to bundle them together. We’ll focus on the CMMS pricing here.

The CMMS has three pricing tiers:

• Standard plan: Starts at $60 per user per month, billed annually, minimum five users
• Enterprise plan: Starts at $100 per user per month, billed annually, minimum 10 users
• Bundle plan: Custom pricing for this plan, which combines the CMMS with Tractian’s condition monitoring sensors

This price is typically a stretch for most small businesses, making Tractian more suitable for businesses with an enterprise-level budget.
