Trust Icon Why Trust Coast?

At Coast, we take our software reviews seriously. Our review methodology evaluates software across seven critical categories that help differentiate the solutions from one another. Each category receives a score from one to five, with five being the highest, and a maximum possible score of 35 points.

FieldEx Ease of Use

Fieldex ease of useFieldEx is mostly straightforward once you’re past the initial setup. After signing up, we noticed a slight learning curve when it came to using the tools and understanding the platform’s capabilities. However, the interface is modern and organized with clear menus for managing work orders, assets and locations, which makes navigation smooth after that first adjustment period.

Creating new items like work orders or asset entries is generally simple, and the template fields for both keep information structured. Updates to work orders can be made directly in the system without having to start over, and the search functionality lets you pull up specific work orders quickly when you know what you’re looking for.

Features are laid out logically, so once you’ve explored the menus, most functions — whether it’s scheduling preventive maintenance or tracking assets — are easy to find. Overall, the platform is designed to support everyday use without feeling cluttered, but it may take a little time for first-time users to feel completely at home.

FieldEx Mobile Experience

Fieldex mobileFieldEx’s mobile app largely mirrors its desktop platform, so once you know how to use that, you’ll find it easy to navigate the mobile app. Updating is also simple — when you change something on one platform, it immediately shows up on the other.

The FieldEx app keeps you in the loop with simple alerts. It sends reminders when maintenance is due, a nudge if parts are running low and even updates that can go straight to customers once a job’s wrapped up. Notifications appear right on your device, so techs and office staff stay on the same page without needing to chase each other down. Some users reported the app to be slightly slow or buggy, but we did not find that to be the case while using it.

FieldEx Core Features & Functionality

Let’s take a closer look at some of FieldEx’s core features and how they function for users.

Work Order Management

Fieldex work orderOnce you get through the learning curve, managing work orders in FieldEx starts to feel like second nature. You can assign tasks, track project and task status and filter by priority without hunting through clunky menus. Updates happen in real time, and the filters are clean and responsive, so it’s easy to figure out what’s urgent, what’s in progress and who’s responsible for what.

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is just as approachable. It’s easy to set up recurring tasks and view everything on a calendar, which makes staying ahead of breakdowns feel way less overwhelming. Whether you’re assigning simple inspections or more complex schedules, the software allows users to stay ahead of any issues that may arise.

Asset Management

Asset tracking is another strong suit. As soon as you add an asset into the system, you can monitor downtime, attach service logs, upload supporting docs or photos, and track conditions in real time. FieldEx also gives you visibility into core reliability metrics like mean time to repair (MTTR) and mean time between failure (MTBF). You’re not just collecting data; you’re actually getting insights.

Communication

FieldEx also keeps communication easy. Techs and supervisors can leave notes, attach images or include step-by-step procedures directly in the work order. While there’s no built-in live chat, the platform supports the kind of context-rich documentation that helps field teams stay on the same page, no matter where they are on the job.

Reporting & Analytics

Reporting and analytics also come built in. FieldEx gives you visual dashboards and customizable reports that cover the essentials, like work order completion rates, tech performance, inventory use, downtime trends and cost tracking.

FieldEx Emphasizes Field Service

Where FieldEx really stands out is how well it bridges a traditional CMMS with the needs of field service teams. Whether your techs are in a warehouse, in the field or offline, they can still log jobs and update asset records right from their phones or tablets.

Whether you’re dispatching a small three-person team or managing a few hundred techs across multiple job sites, FieldEx can scale with your business. It offers integrations with ERPs, CRMs, calendars and IoT devices.

FieldEx Adaptability & Customization

Graphic design templateFieldEx offers a number of templates that are specific to the job you’re doing and your industry. For example, there are work order templates for construction, graphic design and plumbing, just to name a few. You can absolutely customize a work order template to fit your projects. You can add or remove fields as needed, whether that’s client details, project scope or payment terms, so the form reflects the exact requirements of the job.

The same goes for other sections like design revisions, additional services or legal terms, which you can build in or leave out depending on what makes sense for the project. Renaming fields and tailoring the layout is also straightforward — everything from timelines to deliverables can be labeled in a way that makes sense for you and your client. Because these templates are designed to be flexible, you can create custom views by adjusting the layout, branding and usability, whether you’re using editable PDFs, digital forms or design software. That said, users find customizations to be limited beyond simply renaming and reordering fields within the templates.

Finally, FieldEx offers automations in its work order system that take care of repetitive tasks for you. The platform assigns work orders automatically based on technician availability or priority, and it schedules recurring jobs (like monthly HVAC inspections) without extra effort.

FieldEx Customer Support

SupportFieldEx keeps its customer support process simple. Its contact page offers a form you can fill out to reach their team directly. There’s no mention of a live chat feature or phone support line, so it’s safe to assume most communication happens over email.

Because the site doesn’t outline response times, you won’t find an official “we reply within X hours” promise. That said, user reviews on software directories often point to quick turnaround times and helpful answers, with support reps resolving issues rather than bouncing customers around.

FieldEx also features online tools. Its Maintenance Hub gives customers a clear overview of the platform’s maintenance features and how they work. It walks users through tasks like scheduling preventive maintenance tasks, managing work orders and tracking assets, giving you a better understanding of what FieldEx can do. While it’s not a direct support channel, it serves as a helpful reference point for anyone looking to learn more about the system before reaching out for help.

FieldEx Pricing

PricingPricing for FieldX breaks down differently depending on your payment frequency.

Monthly Pricing

  • Lite (up to 5 users): Free, with no credit card required
  • Growth (6 or more users): $15 per user/month, including site and project management plus dedicated support
  • Pro (6 or more users): $50 per user/month, adding preventive maintenance, asset analytics, inventory control, custom workflows, API integration, asset requisition workflows and FieldEx Intelligence

Annual Pricing (with savings of about 30 percent)

  • Lite: Free
  • Growth: $10 per user/month, saving about 34 percent compared to monthly billing
  • Pro: $35 per user/month, saving about 30 percent compared to monthly billing

FieldEx’s free plan is generous compared to most CMMS tools, but its paid tiers run higher than budget options like Maintainly, which starts at $12/user/month. Coast’s mid-tier pricing is similar to FieldEx’s Growth plan, while both Coast and Maintainly come in below FieldEx’s $50/user/month Pro tier. Overall, FieldEx sits in the mid-to-high range, with pricing that reflects its broader feature set.

Two-Year Experience With FieldEx

If I were to rate [FieldEX] on a scale of 0 to 9, I would give it a 6. While the system is helpful for job and report management, the operational steps within the system and apps could be simplified to enhance user-friendliness. Additionally, offering greater flexibility in user customization for certain features would make the system more powerful and efficient.

Coast: The Better FieldEx Alternative

While FieldEx is a capable CMMS, Coast comes out ahead for teams that want flexibility without the steep learning curve. In fact, many users have highlighted how quickly they were able to get up and running on Coast. That means less time spent figuring things out and more time actually managing work orders and assets. Coast also stands out for its adaptability — it offers highly customizable workflows, dashboards and automations that let you mold the platform to fit the way your team already works. FieldEx offers templates for your industry or job that are customizable, but options in creating a general work order with customization are more limited.

Customer support is another place where Coast pulls ahead. FieldEx leans on a contact form, but Coast provides more robust support channels. For teams looking for a CMMS that’s easier to adopt, more flexible in day-to-day use and better backed by responsive support, Coast proves to be the stronger choice.
